Pennies Add Up For Wiregrass United Way

Herndon Shell stations throughout the Wiregrass set a record in their recent Penny a Gallon promotion. During the month of September the stations donated one cent for every gallon of gasoline sold to the Wiregrass United Way.

David Herndon President of Herndon Oil Corporation, presented a check to the Wiregrass United Way for $12,288.61. This was the most raised in any one year since the promotion was first sponsored.

Accepting the check on behalf of the Wiregrass United Way was Alfred Saliba, Campaign Chairman and Pat Dalbey, Board of Trustees Chairman. The organization is currently in the middle of their annual campaign. This year's goal is $2.2 million.

The Wiregrass United Way has served the area since 1938, currently funding 36 member agencies serving Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties. Funds raised by Wiregrass United Way are utilized locally in the five county area. A committee of local volunteers determines how the funds are distributed among the member agencies.
