Wiregrass United Way Reaches 51% of Goal

The Wiregrass United Way has reached the mid point of its annual campaign.  At a campaign report meeting for volunteers, the organization announced that to date they had raised $1,298,706 which represents 50.82% of the $2,555,555.55 goal.

Bob Woodall, overall chairman of this year’s campaign said that he feels they are on target to reach the goal.  “There are numerous area businesses currently conducting their campaign. In addition, there are many others scheduled for the first two weeks of November.”

However, Woodall went on to caution about assuming the goal would be met. “We can not assume that people will give. Our volunteers are committed and through their hard work we can and we will achieve this important goal.”
Several area companies were recognized for their United Way campaigns which had outstanding results this year. They included Southeast Alabama Medical Center, Pridecraft, Dale County employees, PeoplesSouth Bank in headland, Barge, Waggoner, Sumner & Cannon, Inc., Long Term Hospital of Dothan, Army Fleet Support, Lowe’s of Enterprise, MidSouth Bank, Target, jackson Thornton, Ozark City Schools, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, Tim Whitehead Chrysler Plymouth Dodge, Dale Medical Center, Coldwell Banker Prestige Realty.

Numerous volunteers are assisting Woodall with the campaign this year.  These include county campaign chairs, division chairs, loaned executives and campaign coordinators within area companies.  The five county campaign chairs are: Coffee County – Toni Kaminski, Dale County – Billy Blackwell, Geneva County – Mayor Karen Simmons, Henry County – Tim McCraney and Houston County – Mike McCann.

Woodall thanked the volunteers in attendance for the work they had already done. He encouraged them to make their assigned contacts and close the deal.  “Let’s work a little harder, complete the campaigns that are underway and exceed the goal,” he added.

The Wiregrass United Way has served the Wiregrass area since 1938, currently funding 37 agencies serving Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties.  Funds raised by Wiregrass United Way are utilized locally in the five county area.  A committee of local volunteers determines how the funds are distributed among the member agencies.  For more information call 792-9661.
