Former Dothan Mayor Alfred Saliba has been named Campaign Chairman for the 2004 Wiregrass United Way campaign. This announcement was made by Pat Dalbey, Board of Trustees Chairman for the organization.
"I am thrilled that Mr. Saliba agreed to lead our United Way campaign this year," said Pat Dalbey, chairman of the Wiregrass United Way Board of Trustees. "His reputation, leadership skills and vast contacts in the community will be a tremendous help to us. Mr. Saliba knows how vital this campaign is to our agencies and the betterment of our community, and I am delighted that he agreed to get so involved this year."
According to Walter Hill, chief executive officer for the Wiregrass United Way, "Mr. Saliba will be a tremendous asset to our upcoming campaign. Under his leadership we expect to recruit additional volunteers. These volunteers will in turn have a direct impact on the dollars raised. Mr. Saliba's leadership will directly benefit the residents of the Wiregrass through the agencies we fund and the services they offer."
Born and raised in Dothan Saliba has been heavily involved in numerous civic and charitable organizations for many years. Some of those include Dothan Rotary Club, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Community Foundation of Southeast Alabama and the Hawk Houston Boys Club.
Saliba is Founder and President of Alfred Saliba Homes, Inc. and Coldwell Baker Alfred Saliba Realty Corporation. In addition, he is a founding partner of ALADAN, Columbia Yeast and Behavioral Health Systems.
Active at Evergreen Presbyterian Church, Saliba and his wife Henrietta have three children and eight grandchildren.
The Wiregrass United Way has served the Wiregrass area since 1938, currently funding 36 member agencies serving Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston counties. Funds raised by Wiregrass United Way are utilized locally in the five county area. A committee of local volunteers determines how the funds are distributed among the member agencies.
