About the United Way

Purpose of the Wiregrass United Way

The Wiregrass United Way is a locally operated, non-profit corporation which identifies social problems in the community, then organizes local resources to combat those issues. The main way that the community is aided, is through the funding of 37 "Member Agencies," which are independent, local, non-profit, charities that each directly serve individuals with needs. We believe that funding these organizations is one of the most efficient, effective way for resources to be channeled into the community, and we recognize that these agencies have the know-how to make your dollars "stretch" to their greatest potential.

The Wiregrass United Way also has the ability and power to create new agencies, if needed, or start other programs if a particular problem in the community can't be solved by an existing agency.

To increase the organized capacity of Wiregrass Citizens to care for one another, is our mission, and the resources we direct into services are primarily gathered through the annual United Way Campaign, in which we go to the citizens of the Wiregrass and ask them to donate through Employee Campaigns, Letter Campaigns, and other personal ways.

If you need the aid of a charitable organization in the area, then contact us at 792-9661, or visit the Assistance page. People calling the Wiregrass United Way will be directed to the organization best suited to help them. Unfortunately, we cannot directly aid any individuals or families that contact us. We operate by funding the agencies and programs that provide aid, thus relieving them of some of the work of Fund Raising, so that they can focus their efforts on helping individuals as set by their specific mission.

The Wiregrass United Way covers five counties; Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston County. We ask for donations in this area, and we only fund agencies that are active in helping the citizens of this area.
