The Volunteers of the Wiregrass United Way

The Volunteers that govern the Wiregrass United Way are grouped into three different categories.

The Wiregrass Board of Trustees is made up of 30 member panel of volunteers from across the Wiregrass. The ultimate authority and responsibility for the organization is vested in these individuals, and they are business leaders, educators, elected officials, and a variety of other professions. The members of this group for the various committees that do the strategic work of the organization, and each must also serve on a County Advisory Board.

There are five County Advisory Boards, from Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, and Houston Counties, which are made up of volunteers who live or work in the county. Each Advisory Board is responsible for the campaign in their area, as well as deciding the funds that each member agency will receive from that county. Each County Board will send 3-12 members to serve on the Board of Trustees.

Other volunteers serve various functions without having to be members of one of the above boards.

The Wiregrass will have a Campaign Chairman who is not on the Board of Trustees, and each county will have a County Campaign Chairman who is not on the Advisory Board. Also, other individuals can serve on the committees which allocate the funding of the member agencies.

Other volunteers include Employee Chairs, Loaned Executives, United Way Ambassadors, and Agency Speakers.

Employee Chairs are the individuals at a place of business who help conduct the campaign and ensure that all employees are asked to participate in the campaign. They coordinate the rallies and speeches, and make sure that the pledges are collected and channeled through the proper procedures.

Loaned Executives are individuals whose time is "donated" by their company to aid the Wiregrass United Way during its annual Fund Raising Campaign. These volunteers assist the WUW by providing a vital link to the business world, and they work very hard to ensure that the campaign is a success. (read more about LE's)

United Way Ambassadors are recipients of aid from the various member agencies, who take time to appear at events during the campaign and tell their stories. They come from all walks of live, and show the cross section of individuals whose lives are impacted through the United Way System.

Agency Speakers are representatives of the member agencies, usually staff or volunteers, who describe in detail what their particular agency does with its United Way Funding, and how important it is to support the Wiregrass United Way.
